I want YOU for the PyCon Program Commitee!

Do you want to help make PyCon 2013 awesome? Have time to invest before the conference? We're looking for folks that would be interested in serving on the Program Committee. The committee reviews talk proposals for talks at PyCon and select which ones will be on the PyCon program -- an extremely important task. We need your help: a large, diverse program committee is the main way we ensure a fantastic program. So if you are interested in joining the committee, we would love to have you!

Serving on the program committee does require a time commitment on your part. Here's roughly what's involved for committee members:

  • Participation on the mailing list between now and the conference. We use the mailing list to discuss policy, schedule review sessions, and generally coordinate our activity.
  • Reviewing talks on the PyCon website as they come in. Between now and the submission deadline we'll review proposals and work with prospective speakers to help them put forth the best submissions.
  • During October and November, members should expect to spend around 4-8 hour per week in IRC meetings as we discuss, debate, and ultimately decide on the program.
More information about how the program committee functions is available in the PyCon Program Committee Guide.

If you'd like to join, you can do so right now. Membership is open to anyone: a larger committee means a wider set of opinioins, and thus a better program. Just join the program committee mailing list. Once your membership is active, send a note introducing yourself so that the other committee members can get to know you.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me: jacob@jacobian.org. I would be happy to answer any questions or otherwise work to convince you to join us.
